Florian grew up in Southern Germany where he developed his love for wildlife and the outdoors. Starting out watching birds, the binoculars soon were switched for the camera. He was part of German conservation organizations, helping with conservation efforts of the local wetlands as well as protecting migrating Honey Bussards from the rifles of poachers in Southern Italy. By now, Florian has committed years of his professional life to inspire individuals to take action in the protection of large endangered ecosystems. Florian`s photography has earned him a series of awards ranging from “conservation photographer of the year”, the “outstanding book of the year” award as well as NANPA`s Vision Award. His work has exhibited in multiple prestigious museums such as Chicago`s Field Museum, the Museum of Natural History in New York and the Burke Museum in Seattle. Florian’s powerful imagery has served as key element for helping achieve and promote conservation efforts to promote the creation of wildlife corridors through his Freedom to Roam project.
Committed to explore some of the most remote wild corners of the northern hemisphere, Florian, together with his partner Emil Herrera, have set on a quest to document some of the most endangered ecosystems and critical wildlife corridors of North America: Yellowstone to Yukon (Y2Y) and Baja to Beaufort (B2B).
The first project, from Yellowstone to Yukon, portrays the richness of the last wilderness refuge along the Northern Rocky Mountains. It focused in inspire and educate the general public about the importance of connectivity. Large isolated pockets of land, established as parks and preserves, are not enough to maintain a sustainable, healthy ecosystem.
Through his work, Schulz created an award winning coffee-table book, a large traveling and educational museum exhibit, as well as a celebrated multimedia presentation where his personal experiences conveyed with the conservation message, was successful in bringing the concept of wildlife corridors in North America.
As part of his continuous conservation work, Florian has committed to a second photography conservation project, which will be part of the series “Freedom to Roam”. It will follow the same line as the past project: connecting wildlife corridors to keep the web of life.
The undertaken project, under the title “Baja to Beaufort or B2B” will lead Florian & Emil from the warm waters of Mexico all the way up to Alaska, along the Pacific Northwest coast line. Emil, born in Mexico City, works side by side, 24-7 with Florian: by foot, by sailboat or by kayak, she spends also months at the time out in the wild helping portray this magnificent places. Between her multiple responsibilities, she is also charge of the stereo recording of natural sound as well as documenting the project through HD Video.

Un abrazo fuerte!
Is the window which is on the left of the picture a special window that you have created to use rather than removing the door for a photo flight?
Have you ever reversed the passenger seat and photographed with the door removed or used the built in camera port under the rear seat of the
wilga?
Comments?
Hello Brad,
yes the window in the Wilga is a special design. I however did not do it, but the airplane pilot & mechanic did. I know about the “flip seat”, but have not had the need for that. I am amazed by the amount of space in the back seat of the wilga and I veel I do not deed to turn the seat around. I have not tried the plane without the door. I am not sure how much I would gain because of the issues of wind pressure. With this window it is quite ideal to be sheltered from the wind.
See the attached note.
Hello Brad,
if you want to send an attachment, please send it to my email. It is on my website under contacts: http://www.visonsofthewild.com
Hola Emil. Pues ya vi por acá algo de lo que andas haciendo.Que maravilla!!. Felicidades y pues seguiré sus pasos sin duda alguna por este medio. Saludos
I’m so impressed with your site and accomplishments, I have no adequate words to express myself. You are an amazing man doing amazing work… making the world a better place just by doing what you love. Awesome.
Hallo Herr Schulz,
Was steht bei Ihnen derzeit an? Werden Sie in näherer Zukunft mal wieder in Ihrem Heimatland Vorträge halten?
Weiterhin viel Erfolg bei all Ihren Vorhaben!
Schöne Grüße aus Nord-Rhein-Westfalen und gutes Licht
sendet Ihnen
Bernhard
Hallo Bernhard,
Florian
